1、 The necessity of insulator detection equipment
Insulators are key components in power systems that perform dual core functions of electrical insulation and mechanical support. Their performance directly determines the safety, stability, and economy of power grid operation. Under complex working conditions such as high voltage, pollution, and extreme weather, insulators are prone to defects such as aging, deterioration, damage, and electrical traces. If not detected and disposed of in a timely manner, it can easily lead to major accidents such as flashover, tripping, large-scale power outages, equipment damage, and personal injury. Therefore, professional, accurate, and compliant insulator testing equipment is essential for ensuring the safe operation of power systems, and international standards such as IEC 62730:2024 and IEC 60587 provide the core basis for the scientific, standardized, and result recognition of testing.

 

2.  IEC 60587:2022 "Test Methods for Electrical Insulation Materials' Resistance to Tracking and Corrosion under Harsh Environmental Conditions"
1. Standard positioning and scope of application
IEC 60587:2022 is an official testing standard published by IEC, applicable to various electrical insulation materials (including polymers, ceramics, composite materials for insulators, etc.) used in harsh environments (high humidity, high pollution, strong electrical stress). The core evaluation material is the resistance to electrical traces and corrosion at power frequency voltage (45Hz-65Hz), which is the basic standard for insulator material selection and quality control.
2. Core testing method (inclined plane method)
The standard specifies two mainstream testing methods, both using a tilted plane specimen+liquid pollutant+electrode testing device to simulate the discharge scenario of insulator surface pollution and moisture:
Method 1 (Constant Voltage Method): Apply a constant power frequency high voltage to the sample, continuously drip the specified pollution solution (simulating pollution), record the time when conductive traces, corrosion, and breakdown appear on the surface of the sample, and evaluate the material's resistance under constant electrical stress. It is widely used.
Method 2 (Step by Step Boosting Method): Start from low voltage and gradually increase it, maintaining each step for a specified time until the sample fails. Measure the trace voltage and corrosion resistance level of the material to more accurately evaluate the performance boundary of the material at different voltage levels.
